When joining forces, arts and science can create discourse and drive societal transformations. Out of Sync is a collective that explores means for transdisciplinary art-science collaborations. Through interviews with practitioners, Uta Reichardt and René Boonekamp discuss best practises and ways forward for collaborations between the fields in the Icelandic context.

After René Boonekamp finished a BA Leisure Management, he co-founded Stichting Treehouse in 2009. A non-profit umbrella and springboard for initiatives and projects that carried the metaphor of the feeling of kids building a treehouse. Among the entities it started is a collective of people working with waste, development for unused spaces and numerous cultural events. In Iceland he’s been running a co-working space since 2015, a 3 month festival programme in 2016 and in 2017 became co-leaseholder of IÐNÓ, a historical venue downtown Reykjavík. Since June 2020 connected to the University of Iceland and the Iceland University of the Arts as researcher and teacher.
