Design and the arts can help communities to reduce risk, mitigate impact and cope in the
aftermath of disastrous events.

Disaster Studios establishes a platform to link 
Disaster Risk Management and creative 
practises, promote existing works and 
facilitate collaborations to increase disaster 
resilience. In this lecture, Uta Reichardt and Johanna Seelemann will talk about the potential at the intersection of the fields and present the project´s vision.

Uta Reichardt is a post-doc at the University of Iceland Institute for Sustainability Studies and research Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and communication. She explores the role of art and design therein, in prevention, relief and recovery. She teaches on this topic both at HÍ and LHÍ. Johanna Seelemann is a designer, holds a MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven and a Bachelor of Product Design from LHÍ. She freelances for Studio Formafantasma, currently receives the Creative Industries NL Talent Development Grant to develop her own works and teaches at LHÍ and the Sandberg Instituut.
